How do I choose the correct club?
Decisions... decisions! Today's golf marketplace is always evolving and
changing with new & innovative products designs. With that in mind
here are a few tips:
Choosing the proper driver or fairway wood:
- Clubhead size:
Currently the USGA limits the of the club head to 460cc. Typically the
larger the clubhead, the larger the sweetspot, and the more forgiving
the driver.
- Titanium, Steel, or Composite:
The clubhead is typically construced of Titanium, Steel or a composite material.
- Titanium
is an extremely strong, lightweight material allowing for a larger
clubhead with its lightweight allows for a faster clubhead speed..
resulting in added distance.
- Steel
maintains the strength but is typically a bit heavier and restricts the size of the clubhead
- Some of the newest drivers are made of
composite materials
like the Callaway Fusion series of drivers.
Choosing an Iron Set:
There are two primary choices in selecting an iron set: what type of
clubhead you want, and what type of shaft you need.
- Clubhead:
The 3 basic types of clubs are super game improvement, game
improvement, and players clubs. Super game-improvement have features
that provide maximum forgiveness while minimizes the player's ability
to shape shots. Game improvement irons typically are mid-sized
clubheads that offer forgiveness but also offer workability. Lastly,
players clubs typically are more traditional blade style clubs offering
a great deal of workability and feel, but sacrifice forgiveness.
- Steel or Graphite Shafts:
Steel shafts are heavier shafts but provide more feedback and control
over the ball flight and trajectory. Graphite shafts are lighter,
absorb more vibration, and typically add yardage.
